“I kept a set of cheer sticks near my desk to remind me of the fun I had.” Robert Rodriguez, Fall Championships fan
Don’t worry, you can have this much fun more often.
Coaches play a unique and indispensable role in Special Olympics. They teach athletes about character, sportsmanship, courage and ability. With encouragement from a coach like you, these exceptional athletes can do anything. In return, our athletes will help you remember why you love the game.
“I can’t describe the feeling of unconditional acceptance and friendship I felt when a teammate demanded that I use his softball bat, the one he practically sleeps with, or the time when he called me not by name, but ‘my friend,’” said Meg Powell, a Special Olympics coach in Henrico. “Special Olympics is not about what you give to the athletes, but what you receive.”
For more information about coaching (seasons last for 8-10 weeks), or for additional volunteer opportunities, contact Gray Miller, Volunteer Coordinator. You also can complete our online Volunteer Interest Form and we’ll be in touch.
